- 2 ¾ cups cake flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- 2 large eggs + 2 egg whites
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract alcohol-free
- 1 cup milk
- Gel food coloring optional
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp milk or cream
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: sprinkles edible pearls, or fruit for topping
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, whisk together cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, sour cream, and vanilla. Gradually add the dry mix and milk until just combined.
Divide the batter evenly and bake for 30-35 minutes, then cool for 10 minutes.
Level the cakes, cut in half, and arrange into a heart shape. Frost with buttercream and decorate.
