Ingredients
  

  • 2 ¾ cups cake flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs + 2 egg whites
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract alcohol-free
  • 1 cup milk
  • Gel food coloring optional
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk or cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: sprinkles edible pearls, or fruit for topping

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, sour cream, and vanilla. Gradually add the dry mix and milk until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly and bake for 30-35 minutes, then cool for 10 minutes.
  • Level the cakes, cut in half, and arrange into a heart shape. Frost with buttercream and decorate.
