For the Waffles:
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups milk or watered-down yogurt as buttermilk substitute
- 2 large eggs
- ⅓ cup melted butter or neutral oil
- 1 tsp halal vanilla flavoring or vanilla powder
For the Banana Foster Topping:
- 2 tbsp butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 2 ripe bananas sliced
- 1 tsp halal vanilla flavoring
- 1 tbsp water + dash of non-alcoholic rum flavoring optional
Make the Batter: In one bowl, mix dry ingredients. In another, whisk wet ingredients. Combine gently without overmixing.
Heat Waffle Iron: Preheat and grease your waffle maker.
Cook Waffles: Pour in batter and cook until golden and crisp.
Make the Topping: Melt butter in a skillet, add brown sugar and cinnamon, then bananas. Stir in vanilla and optional rum flavor. Simmer briefly, then remove from heat.
